Formal opening of information and advisory centres in Kartuzy and Starogard Gdański

On 27 June 2019, Pomeranian Voivode Dariusz Drelich officially opened two of the six created information and advisory centres for foreigners. At 10 a.m., accompanied by distinguished guests, the Pomeranian Voivode opened the centre in Kartuzy, while at 1 p.m. the opening of the centre in Starogard Gdański took place. The guests were welcomed by the Director of Caritas of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk, priest Janusz Steć.

– the Programme for Support and Integration of Foreigners, which we run in the Pomeranian Province, is aimed, among other things, at opening such centres. Those operate in cities and counties with the largest concentrations of foreigners, who are coming to Poland in ever greater numbers – said Dariusz Drelich, Pomeranian Voivode – Many of them, especially from Ukraine, come here to work and some of them decide to stay here. Due to the fact that they feel good here, they have good jobs and employers start to care about employees, who are valuable to them. If someone comes here with their family, they do not know our reality, they do not know what the formalities or school are like. The programme also includes learning the Polish language, Polish history, customs and traditions – so that those who want to stay here permanently get to know us better.

The centres operate year-round until the termination of the project and provide free assistance to foreigners from outside the European Union. Each point provides advisory and assistance on issues of legalisation of stay, administrative and legal matters, employment rights, integration advisory and assistance, health care, psychological and social care, child care and family reunion. Information and advisory points were set up in 6 communes of Pomeranian Province – apart from those opened here, also in Gdańsk, Gdynia, Słupsk and Chojnice. Each point is run by a person as an integration advisory and assistance specialist. Other specialists employed include: a lawyer, an interpreter, a psychologist and a person providing child care.
